Criminal Defense
With more than 70 years of combined legal experience, the dedicated attorneys at Curran & Watson assist people throughout Southern California who have been accused of committing a crime. Our experience encompasses all state and federal misdemeanors and felonies, and we have handled approximately 10,000 criminal defense matters. Driving Under the Influence/DUI
A DUI conviction can result in serious penalties, including criminal punishments, administrative fines, and driver's license suspension. Penalties also increase for subsequent convictions. The consequences of a DUI or any other criminal conviction can range beyond the fine or sentence imposed. We assist our clients with every step of the process, from the initial DMV administrative hearing to all of the criminal proceedings.
Homicide/Murder Crimes
We have particular experience defending people accused of committing homicide crimes. Attorney William G. Watson has personally handled more than nine homicide cases to conclusion, including three through a jury trial. We understand the serious nature of these cases and the potential life-altering punishments our clients are facing.
Domestic Violence
The label "domestic violence" refers to a wide range of crimes. The California Penal Code defines domestic violence as "the imposition of bodily injury on a spouse, former spouse, cohabitant, former cohabitant, or relative that results in a traumatic injury." We understand the emotional and complex nature of these cases and work diligently to protect our clients' rights.
Drug Crimes
Drug cases involve serious penalties and punishments that can extend beyond jail time and criminal fines. We handle both state and federal cases involving all types of drug crimes, including possession, sale, and trafficking. In many drug cases, especially those involving first-time offenders, there are jail alternatives available in place to help treat and rehabilitate drug users. We seek all available solutions and alternatives for our clients.
Sex Crimes
In addition to the serious punishments attached with sex crimes, every sex offense conviction bears a lifetime burden. Convicted offenders must register as sex offenders for the rest of their lives and failure to do so is a subsequent crime. We understand these punishments and social stigmas that come with sex crime cases and work with our clients to obtain the best possible outcome.
Search & Seizure
One reason it is important to seek counsel from experienced attorneys regardless of the charges in a particular case is that sometimes, the prosecution's evidence can be ruled inadmissible in court if it was obtained through an illegal search and seizure. In each criminal case we handle, we diligently examine the evidence and how it was obtained to determine whether such evidence was gathered illegally and if our client's Fourth Amendment rights were violated.
